What an awesome way to finish off the World University Games after qualifying for the 4x100m relay final- we ended up finishing 4th place in a season's best time. It was great to be a part of a team as athletics can be a very individual sport sometimes. We had some very testing conditions with rain and gale force winds as a storm hit the track with full force. We all ran really well on each of our legs and had great changes.

Overall the competition has had its highs and lows, but mostly has been a great experience and one that I will never forget. It is always an honour to represent your country and to compete on the International stage. This NZ Team has been an amazing group of athletes who have supported each other to achieve their best. I have had a great time with some old friends and have met many new ones too. I can't wait for the next opportunity to race for NZ again!

Thank you to everyone who supported me on this trip- I really appreciate your help. Also thank you to my coach/sister who has put so much time and effort into supporting me and getting me to where I need to be for this trip. It has been hard not having her here with me in Korea- but maybe I can convince her to come on the next trip =)

  • Race Time

As I am writing this I am still a little bit disappointed with my result in the hurdles. I finished up 10th= overall in 13.78s with a head wind of -2.8 m/s (the worst wind of all the heats). A little gutted not to have made the final as my race felt technically good but I obviously just didn't have that little bit of extra spark that I needed on the day. Over the last few trainings I've been battling a little with my left ankle/shin (an injury from the start of the year). So I've been a bit restricted with training and didn't quite have the lead up to the race that i would have wanted. It was still a great experience to get out there and represent New Zealand at a World event. It has been amazing the number of people who have supported me- in so many ways & I really appreciate it! I'm looking forward to racing in the 4x100m relay in a couple of days where I will be running the 2nd leg. Time to refocus as we still have unfinished business.

We have arrived in Gwangju, Korea after a 1 hour bus trip, 9 hour flight to Hong Kong, a 6 hour stop over, 3 hour flight to Seoul and a 4 hour bus ride to Gwangju. We were all pretty tired but luckily the time difference is not too bad here (only 3 hours behind NZ time). It's definitely a lot hotter with temperatures ranging from 20-30degrees. I've had two training sessions at the track so far and it is amazing the difference the heat makes! Everything feels so much smoother, bouncier & faster. We even finished off training the other day with a dip in the steeplechase haha.

We had the opening ceremony at the Main Stadium (also where the athletics will be held) which holds 60,000 people. It was an amazing experience to wear the silver fern and to walk out onto the track in front of so many people. It's exciting to think that I'll be racing there at the end of the week. Enjoying a light day today & exploring the village a little bit.

  • Pre-Meets on the Gold Coast

Off to a good start on the Gold Coast- winning both hurdle races. The first race was pretty consistent hurdling throughout the race and I ran a seasons best of 13.51s. The second race didn't quite go to plan from the start and I hit the 4th hurdle but managed to sneak through at the end for the win in 13.63s. Our 4x100m relay team also raced and successfully passed the baton around the track. I've been enjoying the 20+ temperatures over here and seeing the sun again! We're here for another couple of days and then we leave for Korea- I can't wait!

Thank you all so much for your support towards my trip! Your help has made a huge difference and I have managed to fundraise most of the costs of the trip. I leave for Auckland tomorrow and then over to Brisbane the next day for a pre-meet on the Gold Coast. One last training at the track in the cold before heading over to the heat. I'm really excited to race and for all the hard work to pay off. I will be running in the 100m hurdles and the 4x100m relay so hoping for good times in both events!
