Help us pull our gumboots out of the mud!

We are Penny, Ollie and Isaac, owners of Untamed Earth Organic Farm. You might’ve seen us at the farmers’ markets, bought our veggie boxes during lockdown, or popped into our Farm Shop on Colombo Street.

Farming is more than a livelihood for us. We’ve been growing organic vegetables in Canterbury for 15 years, and over that time we’ve faced heaps of challenges. We’ve dealt with drought, flooding and hailstorms. We pick veggies in the rain every winter without complaining (too much). We reckon we’re pretty resilient.

We’ve had a lot of hard years but this year’s been the hardest by far. In May, our farm next to the Selwyn River was inundated in the Canterbury floods. Half of our paddocks were completely under water. We lost half of all our winter vegetables, and all our winter greens died.

Unfortunately, insurance doesn’t cover veggie crops. This year we haven’t got enough to pay for our spring seeds – the ones that will turn into carrots, broccoli and potatoes in time for Christmas. Veggie seeds are expensive and we need to order them soon to sow our crops this spring, so we’re reluctantly asking our community for support.

We’d love to raise $25,000+ to buy our spring seeds. All the money raised will turn into fresh organic veggies. The more we raise, the more veggies we plant!

We know times are tight so anything you can spare to help would be awesome. With a bit of community support we’ll all be eating sweet baby carrots for Christmas!
