Let's send a bunch of flowers to Wellington clinic staff to help counter the effects of anti-choice protesters during Lent
Wellington
UPDATE: Thank you SO much to the amazing donors who helped us well exceed the goal of $100. The total funds ($319) were split between the Te Mahoe Unit in Wellington and Auckland Medical Aid Centre and $160 of flowers were ordered for both facilities today 23/03/2015.
---
Every weekend during Lent (18 February to 29 March) an anti-choice group Family Life International will be standing outside Wellington Hospital in a "vigil" to protest abortion.
This internationally funded group actively celebrates abortion clinics closing. They run an 0800 "option line"' for pregnant people which counsels against abortion. Among other things, Family Life International opposes sex education, contraception, and marriage equality. You can read more about this group on http://www.fli.org.nz/ or http://www.fli.org.nz/40daysforlife.
To show appreciation and support for the work staff at Te Mahoe Unit in Wellington Hospital do in the face of these and other protesters, please donate towards sending them a bunch of flowers with a card reading the following:
"These flowers are from some kiwis who want to thank you for the hard work you do. Please know that during Family Life International's 40 Days of protest, we are thinking of you and the communities you care for, and that we deeply appreciate you."
[Please note the page is pending donor validation as they require the organiser's street address which is published on donation receipts. Given the level of vitriol pro-choice actions can incur, The organiser is currently looking at a way to get around this, or an organisation willing to lend their address].
I'm asking pro-choice Wellingtonians to donate a small amount towards a big bunch of flowers to show staff at Te Mahoe Unit in Wellington Hospital that their work is appreciated in the face of Family Life's ongoing protests.
