  • Lyrics to the hope song

      23 September 2009

Sing a New Song New Zealand Copyright Sharon Thorburn July 2009 Light a candle for our nation Light a candle, come walk with mec. Light a candle for your children Light a candle so we can see We are the Islands, the first to see the light Four million candles cannot be put out Be the candle for your family Be the voice wefve never heard Be the love song that you long for, Lift your feet, become the prayer We are the islands, the first to see the dawn While the world is sleeping, its hope song is born Can you hear the sound of our childrenfs silent tears Our song, it must rise higher, higher than our fears From Cape Reinga to Stewart Island Our song will rise so strong and clear, Walk the distance, sing our freedom Rise up New Zealand, Beyond despair We are the Islands, the first to see the sun For million voices cannot be undone The match is struck, the flamefs begun The path will rise beneath our feet The song must be sung Be the candle for your nation Sing your language strong and clear Be the difference that we wait for Lift your feet, become the prayer Lift your feet, become the prayer
