We need funding to create a museum of trade union history where historic union film and video can be displayed.
Wellington
Wellington Trades Hall is a landmark in New Zealand trade union and Labour Party history. We want to use space in the building to create a museum open to the public where people can learn about New Zealand's social history.
We want to create a small theatre where union films can be shown. On permanent display will be The Hatred Campaign about the bombing of Trades Hall in 1984.
To secure this historic land mark the owner (Wellington Trades Hall Inc) has put it its spare money and borrowed for earthquake strengthening. If we wait to pay of the debts and continue to upgrade the building it would be many years before this project could get under way.
The money will be spent on converting a space into a theatre, the hard and soft ware for a theatre, converting film and video into a compatible format, associated electrical work and painting.
First month 5 July 2019
After one month our donations for the museum both through Givealittle and directly have reached a total of $4,500. This is enough to start the conversion work on the kiosk. After that is complete the next target is $5000 for the TV screen and computer equipment.
