A fundraiser supporting Mikayla and Westen Hirst following the passing of their father, Troy Hirst.
Auckland
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Troy Hirst.
Troy was a devoted father to Mikayla and Westen, and a cherished member of both the Lakey Peak and Bali communities, as well as the New Zealand surfing community. Through his kindness, friendship, and passion for surfing, he left a lasting impact on many.
This fundraiser has been created to support Mikayla and Westen as they navigate the difficult road ahead.
Thank you for standing alongside the Hirst family and demonstrating the care and generosity that define our surfing community.
This fundraiser account has been created on behalf of Brodie Hirst, Troy Hirst's sister. Brodie will be Mikayla's full-time guardian and primary caregiver in New Zealand, while also providing ongoing support and guidance for Westen.
Donations will help provide for Mikayla's upbringing and education in New Zealand with Troy's sister, Brodie, while also supporting Westen's future in Bali through housing, essential living costs, and assistance as he takes his next steps into adulthood.
Thank you from Brodie 30 July 2026
A heartfelt thank you to all of our generous family, friends, and even those who were once strangers, who have donated to support Westen and Mikayla's future. Words cannot express how grateful we are. Your kindness will make a lasting difference as these two beautiful children navigate life without their dad.
As the trustee and guardian of these funds, I will ensure every dollar is used wisely to support Westen as he pursues his dreams and Mikayla's education and future in New Zealand.
Westen and Mikayla have faced unimaginable challenges with incredible bravery, resilience, and strength. I could not be prouder of them.
Mikayla is settling beautifully into life in New Zealand with Uncle Ryan, cousin Cooper, Nana, Pop, and me. She is now in Year 2 at our local primary school and thriving.
Westen has been busy with Rip Curl photo shoots and is looking forward to the upcoming Padang Padang contest. Between competitions, he'll return to New Zealand to spend time with family and visit his little sister, who can't wait to see him.
If you're in Bali and would like to celebrate the release of Westen's new profile edit, *Darkhorse*, while making one final donation to support Westen and Mikayla, join us at White Monkey this Friday at 6PM.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your generosity has provided more than financial support it has given Westen and Mikayla security, hope, and the knowledge they are surrounded by a community who truly cares. We will be forever grateful
