Where a passion for saving the nations much needed swimming pools meets a willingness to help a rural community save their pool.
Fordell, Manawatu-Wanganui
Having served the rural community of Fordell for almost 90 years our community pool is feeling it's age. Pumps and filters that no longer keep up with the required water circulation, a tired and peeling surface needing a facelift and the wish to upgrade our fencing and changing room facilities there is no shortage of costs pending. We are realistic in our endeavor and plan a staged approach to the project. We have an amazing community who cherish this pool and have worked through the years to maintain it. Many band aids have been applied by volunteers and people contributing from their own back pockets. The time has come where more is needed, we are looking to apply to large funding entities to secure the funds needed to get works underway. Working tirelessly to gain knowledge on what is needed and fundraising events, which the community and local companies have gotten behind. We need to gain enough funds to meet funding criteria for our project, there is still a long way to go. So many memories of learning to swim have been made in this pool, it truly is an asset to our rural community, providing a place to get off the farm and unwind, giving families quality time together and perhaps catching up with neighbours and friends not to mentions our school use the pool daily during summer months. We want to see all of this continue for many more years. We are focused on and driven by the importance of our children learning the lifesaving skill of swimming, to keep them safe.
All funds raised will go towards the refurbishment of the pool, it's facilities and the replacement of circulation, filtration and chlorination equipment.
