A team of exceptional Cambridge residents have been creating care packages for children moving into foster care and they need YOUR help!
Waikato
Last year over 5000 children across New Zealand were either taken into or living in continuing foster care. Often these children have had a hard start to life and come from high risk, abusive and violent homes. These children are often removed suddenly and although some might have a few of their belongings thrown into a rubbish bag to bring with them, many simply have the clothes they are wearing.”
A small team in Waipa are trying to change that by making and delivering care packs directly to these children. Many items such as clothing and toys, are being lovingly donated, and are then sorted and packed and are headed to very grateful little people. Many of these children have not ever had belongings of their own so these care packs really are a truly special gift.
However, collecting donations of items takes time, not all items can be gifted or re-used, such as underwear and now, the space required to store donated items has also become an issue.
One of Whizz Bang Science's core values is community engagement and "giving back". We believe every member of our community from the tallest to the smallest deserves to feel excited, inspired and empowered in all that they do (not just science!). The gift of an opportunity to someone may sound simple but can be extremely powerful and, where possible, our business wants to support other individuals, groups and communities to be able to do the same.
The funds raised will be used to purchase a good condition 40ft shipping container to be used as a store facility for goods received. Containers cost around $4000 for a good condition, dry container.
Any additional funds will be used to purchase essential items such as new underwear, basic clothing and shoes. This means care packs can be put together immediately and be on their way to new homes as soon as possible.
