Foxy’s big fight for recovery

  • It's been a year!

      4 December 2022

I can't quite believe that a year has snuck by since our C journey began. I guess Christmas will always plague us of this memory, but this year we can celebrate knowing that the up hill journey that was 2022 is behind us for now. The team are monitoring John closely, as will I and we are positive that the hiccup

that we went through, will not be returning. So there Cancer, you can bugger off for good. I must say John has taken on his challenge by the horns and never let it get the better of him. Such a strong man.. can't say i'd be the same. BUT... as the year comes to a close, we think of all the friends and family that have had our backs and once again thank you for being there for us. We hope you enjoy Christmas 2022 with our loved ones and lets hope 2023 is a good one for us all! Much love

    Lizzie

  • John’s fight was worth it!

So as you know, back in December our world got turned up side down. To cut a long story short after months of Chemo and radiation the fight was well worth it and John is now cancer free! No surgery is required at this point and he is healing superbly! Been the best weight loss plan available on the market too, having gone from a heavy weight to a feather weight!

We are happy to put the cancer word to bed in our household and if we never saw a hospital again, we’d be happy. We are more than appreciative for the amazing care that the Auckland city hospital provided, yip we were lucky in this respect. But we also had the support of all of you too and that’s what got us through the hard stuff. Thank you all again

For your help, support, love and well

Wishes for getting our journey back on track ❤️

  • End of Treatment update

      15 March 2022

The last 4 weeks in particular have been hard in all respects, but John has taken it in his stride and smashed everyday with a great attitude. He’s finished his last chemotherapy and radiation, however the treatment continues to work over the next 3 months.

Today we saw the hospital specialists and they have given a great update so far. The neck tumour is almost gone, and he even thinks it’s only fibrosed tissue left and the throat is looking remarkable. He is exceeding the specialists expectations at every point. He has a G tube for feeding and is starting to eat again slowly. His liver has taken a beating from the chemo, but is slowly improving too. His pale yellow skin colour is not his best assets. 🤣 He has awesome care all round supporting him to becoming cancer free (yip, that’s what we are holding onto). In three months he will have another PET scan to prove this! If any tumours remain they will then do salvage surgery. This week john has started working from home a couple of hours a day. The biggest side effects right now is tiredness, gagging/nausea, no taste at all, but we have managed to halt his weight loss. (25kg in total).

So all in all, things are going well, a long wait whilst the treatment finishes it’s job and the cellUlar activity settles so

Another scan can be done. Thank you so much for everyone for being right by our side, whether it’s been messages, prayers, dinners and babysitting or helping his give a little. We appreciate every single bit! ♥️

To say this week has been tough would be an understatement. Physically for John but emotionally for the rest of the family. First chemo started last Monday and radiotherapy has been every day. John hasn’t moaned once! All of your support has gone towards buying him the best cancer nutritional support, supplements, organic foods And unfunded medicines and prescriptions. Thank you! We are privileged to have a wonderful team behind us! Please think of him for next Monday as they up the anti to kiss these tumours right outta here.

Yesterday was spent relaxing, eating and laughing with family! It was awesome to let my hair down (even tho I don’t have any). It truely reminded me why I will fight my best fight to get rid of this cancer…. Thanks to my amazing family for the endless support and love.

  • The big update!

      18 December 2021

Yesterday was a whole day at Auckland City Hospital, with more tests and then panels of specialists reviewing what my plan is ahead. So, sadly the tumour in my throat is too big to operate on for now, and the tumour in my neck is also too large and too close to vital structures for surgery consideration however all of the tumours are expected to be highly receptive to chemoradiation. So on Tuesday I spend the day getting fitted for my

Mask etc.. and two weeks from now chemo and radio commence. The other fantastic news is, it hasn’t spread to anywhere else in my body! Really hard road ahead, but I’m up for the fight. This isn’t going to get me. Will keep you posted along the way.
