Frankie to the Rescue

  • Another year!

      31 January 2024

    Hi everyone

Just a quick note to let you know that we will be extending the page. Over the past year we have helped out so many families and have some big plans for 2024 to reach more families and extend the support we are offering. What we are doing is really appreciated by the families and the staff working with them.

Thanks again to you all for your ongoing support of Frankie to the Rescue x

  • First Christchurch Delivery!

      3 November 2023
    Main image

It’s been awhile since our last update! We’ve been busy settling into life here in Christchurch.

Today we did our first delivery to CHOC - Children’s Oncology. We’re still mainly focussing on the palliative care area but happy to have enough funding so far to have our very popular present boxes at Starship and now CHOC. The staff were so excited to go through the goodies we dropped off and so grateful for the support.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated over the past few months to make this possible.

Frankie would be so happy to see all of these cool things going to children having a tough time and bringing a smile to their faces

  • Overdue Update!

      22 March 2023

It's been awhile since we posted on here sorry!

We did a big delivery for the team at Starship last week 🚒. We took in parents packs for Palliative Care to distribute as well as a big top up for our present boxes for Palliative Care and Oncology.

We really appreciate the companies that have been supporting us so far. Our biggest expense is toys, activities and stationery for the present boxes we supply to Auckland and Christchurch. If anyone has links to any organisations who could help us access discounted product please send us a message. It would enable us to stretch our fundraising dollars further and do more things like provide meal vouchers to families in need.

Thank you to all of you who have supported us via this page and those companies who have provided discounted products x

  • End of year delivery to Starship

      19 December 2022

Two years ago we had just been admitted to Starship with Frankie, processing the most unimaginable news.

One year ago we had just started Frankie to the Rescue and completed our first delivery to Starship.

Last week we were in there again, doing our last delivery of the year and catching up with the Palliative Care team as well as our counsellor. An emotional day for sure.

A few highlights from the year that wouldn’t have been possible without your support:

    *Raised more than $20,000

*Supported Paediatric Palliative Care families with practical support such as food and parking vouchers as well as toys and parents gift packs

*Resourced a kick-ass present box for Oncology at Starship

*Extended our support to the Paediatric Palliative Care team at Nurse Maude in Christchurch

*Partnered with Brain Tumour Support NZ who are doing amazing work supporting children with brain tumours

*Met some incredible people on this journey who have provided support to us in various ways

We just wanted to share with you all how grateful we are for your support since we started Frankie to the Rescue. Looking forward to keeping this going in 2023 🚒

  • October Delivery

      1 October 2022
    Main image

A rainy Saturday. A day like this a couple of years ago we’d be so content at home hanging with Scarlett and Frankie but now a day like today is another really hard reminder of how our life has changed. Nearly a year and a half on it certainly doesn’t hurt any less - it’s harder in many ways.

So we dragged ourselves out of the house and went shopping for some supplies for our delivery this Monday to Starship. It’s a way for us to feel close to Frankie and do something positive.

Being in a toy shop is bloody hard. Scarlett helps keep the mood light of course and was a great help.

We’re taking in more parents packs for the palliative care team to distribute as well as gifts and activities for palliative care, oncology and neurology. We also had enough to make up some wee packs for some of the amazing staff at Starship and Nurse Maude in Christchurch who help us out. Also working on a top up for Christchurch 🌼

A lot of people to thank for this delivery:

    Pure-ness Creations Limited

    Fire and Emergency NZ

    Awesome Inc

    Briar Dunn Real Estate

    Bowring Print

And of course all of you who have donated to the Give a Little page 🚒

  • Starship delivery

This week Scarlett and some of her friends helped us drop off some more goodies to Starship. It’s been heartwarming to see her and her friends show so much interest in what we’re doing and be so keen to be involved. They helped us make up the packs and came along to meet staff in the carpark to drop it all off.

We delivered more parents packs for the palliative care team to distribute, topped up the present box and gave them flowers to brighten some days. We've also been continuing to provide the palliative care team with vouchers for meal deliveries which have been really well received. Thanks to you all for your continued support x

  • Parking at Starship

      7 July 2022
    Main image

This week we donated 100 parking vouchers to the palliative care team at Starship. There are very limited free parking spots so often families are paying when coming in for appointments or when their child is admitted. It blows our minds that families are having to get their credit cards out to pay for parking and we are hearing from the team this is a real struggle for some people. Thanks to those of you who have donated so we can do things like this 🚒

Another delivery to Starship oncology this week. This time we decided to do a selection of toys and activities for children in hospital over Easter. The staff were so excited to be able to make up their own wee Frankie to the Rescue packs for children, including our fold up firetrucks. Thanks to all of you for your support and enabling us to make this happen and bring a smile to these beautiful children’s faces 🚒 xx

  • Our first parents packs delivery

      8 March 2022

This week we delivered our first lot of parents packs for the palliative care team at Starship Hospital to distribute. We're so grateful for the support of all of you who have donated so we could make this happen. We made up 20 packs and were able to put a $100 voucher in every pack for the meal delivery service Casual Foodie. We had their food a lot when Frankie was sick and it is so tasty and convenient. We know we can’t fix what these families are going through but hopefully this helps bring a smile and provides a couple of nutritious meals. The team were so grateful for these packs and we've already had feedback from one family who are from out of Auckland but staying in an apartment near the hospital and said the food voucher will be so helpful and they really appreciated the treats 🚒. We're gathering up supplies to do another children's activity pack delivery in the next few weeks. Thanks again to you all for your support xx

This week we are delivering 30 of these journals (child/teen/adult versions) to the Consult Liaison team at Starship. This wonderful team of people provide psychological support to children and their families (including us). They are super grateful to have these as a resource and we are glad to have this team distributing them to those they feel it’s relevant for. Thank you so much to everyone for your donations and Awesome Inc for making this happen xx

  • Thank you!!!

    To Frankie's Rescue Crew,

Thank you so so much for your support of Frankie to the Rescue. We've had great feedback from Starship regarding the activity packs we delivered last week. Thanks to your donations, we will be able to do some amazing things next year to bring smiles to the faces of young kiwi kids with cancer. This Christmas is so incredibly hard without our beautiful Frankie here with us, but your support in keeping his kind spirit alive is bringing us some comfort.

We're going to take some time out over the next few weeks to be with family and friends, but will be in touch in the New Year with another update.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas xx

Hi everyone, this week we did our first delivery to Starship of 30 activity packs, 4 teepee/tents for children at home and a present box. Scarlett has been really enjoying being involved in making the packs up and delivering them. She has personally endorsed every product in the packs! Check out the 'build your own firetruck' that Fire and Emergency NZ kindly branded with Frankie to the Rescue and a Frankie number plate x
