Facilitating a trial to show the benefits of freediving on mental health
Christchurch, Canterbury
Barxruku Trust founder Ian Barker has been training people to free-dive for over 15 years and has received multiple testimonials from people who suffer from mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. These have shown how freediving and spearfishing can create massive positive improvements in participants mental well being. Reductions in the symptoms associated with their mental illness were reduced in their day to day life which allowed them to integrate themselves back into society confidently and effectively.
Our plan is to work with industry professionals to run a trial which will provide results that back up 15 years worth of positive feedback.
Barxruku Charitable Trust has been set up to support ideas such as free-dive training and breath holding to help with various mental illnesses.
All requirements to facilitate a trial to allow 8-10 attendees to complete a full 3 week free-dive training course as well as provide full results.
Freedive for Mental Health 3 May 2022
Lot's has happened in the last few months with Freedive for Mental Health! We have secured 4 new sponsors (keep an eye out for the FDFMH van driving around Christchurch!), had a website and brand built around our project and are also starting a fundraising campaign at the Riccarton Sunday markets in Christchurch on the 29th of May. As we continue to grow and progress we greatly appreciate any support shown from generous donors around the country.
