Helping to fund free kayak safety lessons to the Wellington community to prevent tragedy as we head into summer.
Wellington
Jack Skellett lost his life after becoming separated from his Kayak in the Wellington harbour on the 21st of December 2021, days after turning 23.
Each year since, as a way to prevent this from devastating other families and to honour his memory, Wildfinder NZ have been able to offer at least 1 group lesson to the wider Wellington community & accomodating to 20 participants in each.
Having attended one of the workshops myself (not as a counted participant), it was clear how critical the lessons are for people who want to get involved in Kayaking, and important too as many people who get involved in these sports seriously underestimate the risks.
I'm confident that those who attended the courses will now have the tools to make safer choices and will be able to share what they learned with loved ones. If even one life is saved as a result of these workshops, then it has been a success.
Since both workshops had a waiting list of people wanting to secure a spot, it is obvious that this is something that the community feels is important and will take up if it is on offer.
There is another one organised for mid December, and Jack's Mum Karen is $400 short of being able to put one on this year, so we have created this fundraiser again to get it over the line. The generosity displayed during the last fundraisers has just been incredible and the kind messages mean the world to Jacks family.
Please share this page around and leave a donation if you can.
