Raising funds to clean up a village (or more) in India to reduce plastic waste and rubbish reaching the ocean and ending in the environment
Takapuna, Auckland
On my last trip to India, I couldn’t stop noticing the rubbish and waste crisis India is facing. It was everywhere, on the streets, in the rivers, just part of daily life. Not because people don’t care, but because the systems to deal with it are stretched thin.
It really stuck with me that this isn’t just India’s issue, it’s all of ours. When waste ends up in the environment, it affects all of us eventually, but for now it’s these communities on the front line who need a hand and while we’re a long way from India here in NZ, we can still do something to help.
I’m heading back to India in four weeks, and this time I want to do something practical. This bought to life the idea of "The Good Karma Collective NZ", an initiative to support India through crowd funding from NZ. I’m raising funds to clean up a village / community in India via Plastics for Change, an organisation doing solid, on-the-groundwork to clean up plastic while supporting people who rely on waste picking to earn a living. They make sure plastic is collected safely, recycled properly, and that workers are paid fairly.
It’s simple stuff, really cleaner communities, less rubbish and plastic in the environment, and a fair go for the people doing the hard yards.
Every dollar raised will initiate a community cleanup for an area that needs it the most.
The fundraiser runs until I leave, and whether you chip in a little or a lot, it all helps.

Thank you 💛
I am partnering with Plastics for Change India to raise awareness of the amazing work they do cleaning up communities in India, supporting waste pickers, bettering lives, and creating amazing new products out of the waste they pick.
The money will be spent directly to clean up a community in India.
