Help 5-year-old Matthew hear again with cochlear implants!

We began our emigration journey to New Zealand after I lost my job in South Africa and as a result lost our house and most of what we owned. My husband and I decided that we wanted to give our boys hope for a better future and fell in love with New Zealand in our search of where we could achieve this goal.

My son Matthew was diagnosed with moderate sensorineural hearing loss in December 2019 and we had to sell most of our belongings to fund his first pair of hearing aids. At the time the Audiologist did not even tell us that there was a possibility of deterioration of his condition and we were complete thrown upside down after having his hearing retested in New Zealand only to be told that he would need to get cochlear implants within the next 1 to 3 years due to the major deterioration of his hearing. To this day we have not been able to determine the cause of his hearing loss and the specialists have advised us that we will most likely not be able to.

Due to Covid, we have not been able to apply for permanent residency in New Zealand and as a result, we are not covered by any of the public funding for Matthew and have had to pay all of his medical costs out of our pockets, which have not been an easy road.

Creating this page to attempt in raising funds for my little boy's operation is truly our last resort and kindly ask for any of your consideration to our cause.
