100 miles (160km) of cycling for as much funds as we can get to the families in Ukraine.
Nationwide
We're riding 100 miles on Zwift, raising money for Ukraine.
We are a group of friends that ride socially using the virtual platform Zwift, part of an amazing team called NZBRO.
Your riders are: Butcher, Milne, Luke, Al, Beppo, Warren, Hamish, Sam, Kev, Cameron (aka Little Pedal).
On March 27 at 7am (NZ time) we are going to set off on a 100 mile ride around Watopia to show our support for Ukraine families and communities.
The money you contribute goes to The Red Cross who is best placed to immediately help the families and kids affected by this horror. We're all guys of the age that would be conscripted if we were there. Most of us are fathers that would be saying goodbye to their kids and partners, if they could get out.
Putting in some hard yards on a limit-pushing distance, in order to get as much contribution to help these people is the least we can do.
How do I donate? Either give what you can, or back your rider now for $1 a mile by putting in $100
When is it going to happen? 7am Sunday March 27th. We reckon it'll be around 5 hours of proper ouch.
Streaming and chatting and photo updates on the day!
The ride will be live streamed on Twitch (check back here on the day for the live link)
Plus some pics and videos will be going to FB, URL the link below too
If you're keen to chat to the guys, then Discord is the place: https://discord.gg/RtbBXzpy
Giving to the Red Cross Ukraine appeal
From the Red Cross:
Please donate today if you can. All funds raised will be directed to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) who are on the ground in Ukraine and neighbouring countries providing support to those most in need.
If you're reading this then you're a great person 💓😍 (keep it up), plus it means we've nailed the 100 miles. 29 March 2022
Good on you for supporting the families and kids affected by this horror in Ukraine.
What we've all put together is enormous, now standing at exactly $11,000 and we couldn't be prouder. Thank you to all of you for your generosity for the cause.
Here with the match report, with love and thanks to the supporters, the over-zealous demands for Lycra pics, and the motivational entertainment provided to get through the tougher kms. Some more pics are up on the page now too.
Match report:
7am Sunday morning: we had all dutifully prepared our bike set-ups the night before, trainer ready, technology connected, Kev had the NZBRO livestream ready, hydration holstered, a strong fan in place, nutrition sorted, and on the Discord channel chatting away like excited little boys. A lot of training had gone into this, but let's be honest, we didn't know what we were doing. The optimisim and fear was brewing nicely together.
However...
Cam (aka Little Pedal) caught Covid and had to sit this one out, instead riding support-car, working the soc-med content strategy for you all to follow
Beppo turned up without any food/towel/water
Hamish's microphone cut out, which was probably for the best
Bertie the Labrador almost dragged the computer off
Zwift crashed shortly after starting for several members, causing quite the kerfuffle
But then...
We got underway and pressed on through the kms, nattering away
And the cricket teams from tours in the 90s were named
And the advice on how to gain those 10 extra Watts was given
And Greg Milne turned up to give an electric keyboard performance of love songs and movie soundtracks that will live long in the memory
And Families came to support. And families left in disgust
And Chris and Marek came to join the ride for a big chunk of it
And other Zwifters from all over the world came to join the bunch and ride in support
And some of the team drank a cold beer at 100km
And some stayed very quiet and just wanted to survive
And friends joined the audio, solely to help pass the monotony of the Sunday housework.
Until finally...
4 hours and 40 minutes later
There was one lap to go
And the people did rejoice
And Butcher's winning photo says it all
And there was quiet and beer and sleeping.
xoxo
Love you all
