  • Progress at Shree Shisakhola School

      18 November 2018

I am sure you would like an update on progress at the school and so you can see how your donations are being used. I have been sent a couple of videos showing the new English teacher here taking classes. These were taken after only three months and I can see a lot of progress from when I visited the school a year ago. I have a friend visiting the school shortly and hope to get further updates and videos which I will share. Again thank you for your support for the school.

  • Meet the new English Teacher

It has taken awhile but I am delighted to let you know the new English teacher is now in place ready to start the new term. It has been difficult finding a teacher with a good standard of English who was prepared to commit to two years in such a remote area. This is Gaiya Buri who actually grew up not too far away from Shisakhola village. She will be a dedicated English teacher to the 63 children. Everyone is very excited and extend their 'namastes' and thank yous to the people in New Zealand and Canada who have helped. Thank you to Phil for his amazing ride to support this fundraiser and to you all for your donations. We had to increase the salary to 20,000 NR per month (approx $267) + an annual bonus. This will be 260,000nr pa ($3465). So we will need to keep fundraising to cover the full two years salary. I have also been asked if we can help with resources for the English lessons. So please share this and we will keep supporting Shri Shisakhola school. Every little bit helps a lot.

Three weeks ago today Phil left Cape Reinga to start his 3000 km ride of New Zealand. Yesterday afternoon he got off his bike and stood at Bluff, ride finished. And well ahead of schedule. Orange you are amazing and hope you now have a bit of a rest and enjoy what your have achieved. CONGRATULATIONS. Thank you so much for riding to support Shree Shisakhola school. Without you we would not have got such wonderful support.

Again thank you all for your generous donations and supporting this school and the children. Our fundraising will continue as a suitable teacher has not yet been found and we have offered to increase the salary. Please share with your friends and family and ask them to support our cause, every little bit helps a lot.

Yahoo today we hit our target of $5000! Thank you all for your donations and for spreading the word as the donations have kept coming in. Advertising is now underway for an English teacher for Shree Shisakhola school and hopefully it won't be long before they find the right person. We can't stop now though as there is still so much to provide for this school. So please keep spreading the word and directing friends and family to our page. A big thank you to Phil (Orange) who's awesome effort has helped us get to our target. Phil is now in Haast and is onto the last 500 km of his journey. Looks like a big hill day coming up. Stay strong Phil we are all right behind you and just remember "The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow" - Stephen Richards.

Your generous donations continue to come through and we have now raised $4245.00! We are thrilled at being so close to our target. Thank you all. Phil (Orange) is now two weeks into his journey and hit the 2000 km mark Monday afternoon. What a feat, 2000 km of continuous pedaling over all sorts of terrain. He is now in Reefton and will enjoy a very scenic ride down the West Coast. I hope you are managing to enjoy the ride and the sights Phil.

The children at Shre Shisakhola school in Nepal now have a map of New Zealand and are following Phil's progress when they get updates, knowing that what he is doing to help them is not easy.

Please tell your friends and family about our cause. Every little bit helps a lot.
