In this season of Lent, the horror in Gaza reaches a new intensity and we’re reminded of the urgency and importance of the need for peace and justice.
Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimages is a network of autonomous Christian groups with shared convictions who are engaging in a prayerful show of solidarity in 145 cities across 18 countries, where people during Lent will walk 41km, the length of the Gaza Strip, and fundraise to support peace.
Our prayer this Lent is that as we reflect on the passion of Jesus and his journey to the cross, we might deepen our prayerful solidarity with what our Palestinian sisters and brothers are experiencing daily: https://www.commongrace.nz/gazapilgrimages
In New Zealand, we are hosting four pilgrimages and fundraising to support important justice work of local organisations in Israel-Palestine.
This Givealittle page is fundraising for Musalaha. Musalaha is a faith-based organization that teaches, trains and facilitates reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, based on biblical principles of reconciliation. Their philosophy of reconciliation is two-fold: 1) Restoring Individual and Group Relationships, to love thy neighbour as they self. 2) Addressing Systematic Injustices, to deal with the core issues of the conflict by challenging power imbalance and oppressive systems.
Through these pilgrimages, we are fundraising for orgs in Israel-Palestine. Musalaha, formerly supported by Tearfund, is one we are fundraising for. Musalaha facilitates reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians from diverse religious backgrounds. Funds will be passed on to Vine Design Trust who are creating the website and resources on behalf of Musalaha.
Money raised will support the growing international reconciliation work of Musalaha. 'Musalaha Academy' is a new project, creating e-courses from their curriculum of biblical reconciliation for people to study internationally and be champions for peace.
