Help give Dave (one of the best guy's you could meet) a fighting chance to beat cancer, by helping pay for life-saving Keytruda treatment.
Auckland
Dave is a terrific guy. He is a builder, born and bred in Whitianga with a passion for the outdoors. Dave loves surfing and fishing, but even more, his soul mate Mel, and their three boys Nation, Mannix and Harlan.
Life was going well for Dave and his family until January 2020 when his health began to deteriorate, and he received the devastating news he had an aggressive form of cancer called cholangiocarcinoma or bile duct cancer, known as a silent killer that doesn't usually present symptoms until end-stage. Dave and Mel put everything into fighting the cancer, including Dave having surgery and engaging in expensive alternative treatments and multiple rounds of debilitating chemo. In October 2020 it was looking promising. Dave got word the cancer appeared to be inactive.
Fast forward two short months and Dave's health wasn't improving when it should have been. Dave began experiencing sever pain and more tests was told in January further life-crushing news for the family - the cancer was back.
Dave and Mel have another fight on their hands and are determined to do everything they can. Treatment is still and option, and Dave has the opportunity to beat the cancer with the amazing immunotherapy drug, Keytruda. But there is a huge barrier. It's only available through self-funding for Dave's type of cancer, which means thousands of dollars for each treatment, and to get ahead of the cancer, Dave needs multiple treatments.
That is where we come in! Dave and Mel need help to pay for the treatment. So, instead of eating out at a restaurant this week, or buying that coffee tomorrow morning, or picking up the latest magazine, fishing rod or box of craft beers ........ why not do something amazing and invest the money in Dave's life-saving treatment! Any help you can give will be appreciated more than you could ever know.
Our son Joe and Nation are great mates, and our family have been lucky enough to get to know Dave, Mel and their three awesome boys over the last five years through school and rugby within our community here in Pukekohe.
All funds will go towards Keytruda treatment costs. Any surplus (if we reached well over our goal) will go towards daily living costs whilst Dave is unable to work.
Reaching our first 15k!! 14 February 2021
As I type this we are $4 away from fundraising our first $15k team. That is one whole dose of Keytruda.
Dave and Mel are blown away at your generosity. Of course we are not surprised. The messages of support alongside the donations show what Dave and Mel mean to others and how they have supported many people.
A young lad I know personally donated some of his pocket money. I had no idea he even knew Dave, but he did. From the Pukekohe skate park. He said Dave had always been so nice to him.
