Emmy has Cerebral Palsy and her dream is to be able to walk completely independently
Rangiora, Canterbury
Emersyn Jane Hardie was born on 16/7/21 unfortunately during birth she suffered a severe brain injury known as Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy (HIE) .
Emersyn’s delivery was traumatic and when she was born she had no heart rate and wasn’t breathing. After 16 min of cpr and a month in NICU
an MRI confirmed that her brain was severely damaged which has led to her being diagnosed with Dyskentic Cerebral Palsy . We have been prepared that Emersyn will never walk, talk, move or eat.
But no one told Emmy that. She is a determined wee girl and has come off her feeding tube, is starting to say a few words and is rolling . Her next goal is learning to sit and walk and we need your help!
Centre of Movement is a paediatric rehabilitation centre that offer intensive therapy. This type of therapy is proven to help children with CP gain strength and develop more independence.
Intensive therapy is For three weeks and 3 hours a day . A team of specialists will help Emersyn to rewire her brain around the damaged and create new pathways. Helping her to gain the strength she is very much needing!
Unfortunately this type of treatment is not cheap and is not available in NZ. As we are a young family and Mackenzie (Emmy’s mum) has been unable to return to work as Emmy needs 24/7 care we aren’t able to do it alone and would love any support to help her Emersyn some independence!
You can read more about Emersyn's journey on our past givealittle page here: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/encouraging-emersyn-1
We are fundraising so we will be able to access the equipment and the rehabilitation that will be essential to help her to achieve more independence.
Centre of movement is a paediatric rehab located in the Gold Coast of Australia.
