The 2023 World Poetry Slam will be taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this October. The 2022 New Zealand Poetry Slam Champion Takunda Muzondiwa has been offered a slot to represent Aotearoa against 30 other countries from across the globe.
This will be an incredible opportunity for one of the New Zealand’s most beloved artists to rock the stage from across the planet. To make it happen though, we need our community’s support!
The funds we are raising will help with travel costs, lodging, meals, ground transport, and visa’s for Takunda and her support crew.
Takunda is a performance artist, speaker and poet from Zimbabwe, Southern Afrika. She is the 2022 New Zealand Poetry Slam Champion, an Auckland Poetry Slam Champion, a Word – The Front-Line Finalist, alumni, and coach. Coming from a theatre and musical background, she combines voice, drama, and movement to tell stories of the heart, of her motherland and to offer social commentary. Belonging to various global communities, in a similar nature to her social identities, her artistry is an intersection of both art and activism.
Every donation helps. Let’s get this poet to Rio!
