We need support to get us to Darwin to represent NZ in Tournament of Minds Challenge under the secondary category for STEM
Auckland
Earlier this term our team won the NZ Tournament of Minds (TOM) Regional Competition and then were thrilled to win the National Competition last weekend. We now have the honour of travelling to Darwin to compete in the International Competition against teams from Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. We will be representing New Zealand in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math category.
Tournament of Minds is a problem-solving program for multi-aged teams of students who work together to solve a demanding, open-ended Long-Term Challenge. The team will also participate in an unseen Spontaneous Challenge® on Tournament Day. The purpose of Tournament of Minds is to enhance the potential of our youth by developing diverse skills, enterprise, time management, and the discipline to work collaboratively within a challenging and competitive environment.
As the national competition only finished last weekend we are working very hard to raise funds to travel to Darwin on the 11th of October, returning on the 14th of October. We are under time constraints in which to raise this money to travel and hence are seeking sponsorship to fund our trip. The entire trip will cost approximately $20000 including airfares, accommodation and food.
We are a junior college in East Auckland. Integral to learning at Mission Heights Junior College is the use of sustained innovative approaches within authentic, engaging and relevant learning contexts in our digitally intensive environment.
