  • SeaWorld

Today i went and booked the very last thing on our list- sea world!

We were able to secure a booking at an extra cost for Kanye to swim with the dolphins!

Sea world have special sessions available for those with disabilities to be in the water with the dolphins. They said that when we arrive the trainer will assess Kanye and decide on which will be best for him ie. he's in shallow water and the dolphin comes to him or in moderate water with a life jacket on, that sort of thing. Obviously they need to keep the dolphin safe as well as Kanye

They need a carer to be in the water with Kanye, so we decided Andre will be best as he is stronger, taller and the other 2 boys will cope better with me.

We are really excited we were able to do this for him,we are able to get it recorded and get it on dvd. Already thinking about it made me emotional- clearly i'll be a teary mess actually seeing him in the water with a dolphin lets hope that they don't film that part!

Really grateful to my travel agent who has been organizing all these things for me, she has been amazing!

And a huge thank you to all of you who have donated, we couldn't have achieved any of this without your generosity!

Here is an updated rundown on where your amazing donations have gone.

  • Update for 09/08/2014

      9 August 2014

Initially when we setup this fundraiser we were aiming high - $5000 seemed like an unreachable goal for a holiday. We were thinking hey, maybe it'll go viral or something. The internet right? It could happen. When we posted it and our friends showed their generosity, we thought ""Wow, we might actually be able to do it!"" With their help, fully a fifth of the amount needed was raised. But for that, most of the people we know had donated. We didn't have a lot of people to reach out to in the first place, so I fully anticipated having to raise the other $4k myself the old fashioned way - working, and budgeting hard. That's my lifestyle, you see. We are ""home bodies"", we don't get out much, if at all. We don't spend money on luxuries except the occasional game (on sale) for me or the kids. I never have money to buy sweet things for my wife like flowers or jewelry. We always make sure the kids are lots of toys and clothes and are well fed, we pour our livelihood into giving them good lives, good memories. But a family holiday? Hell, Emma and I haven't even had a honeymoon yet and our 5 year anniversary is coming up. I wanted to make good on the money raised for this holiday though, so I had committed myself to trying to add this cost to our budgetary goals. But then the fundraiser just kept going. And GOING. People kept donating. Friends of friends and lovely, generous colleagues; people who haven't met Kanye just opened their hearts and purses to this cause. I was at work watching the donations coming in and just trembling, trying to hold myself together. It was like the let down from adrenalin. I felt the same feeling when my sons were born and I first saw their heads appear - that feeling of ""THIS IS... IT'S HAPPENING!"" mixed with total disbelief. I'm so used to doing this on my own. Taking care of our little family with my wife in our little home.. doing what we can to make sure we all get what we need.. and always trying to be happy with what we have.. looking after each other. There has been a lot of sacrifices. It's fully worth it though I wouldn't give up my life for the world, and I know other people have it more difficult than us, so I'm not one to whinge if things are hard. I just have to look at the news any day of the week to see someone having a worse time of it. And so, when people just started giving and giving and acknowledging that Kanye deserved this trip away to Australia, and people were emailing me to say that we as a family deserved it, I was beside myself. I wasn't ready for this. Now it's looking like we're going to be closer to raising the full amount, and a friend of Emma's has offered to pay for accommodation in FULL. In addition we didn't account for the deals Air NZ might offer, which as of right now is 50% off (hopefully that deal will last until we have access to the funds), so our trip has been extended from 5 to at least 7 days, and we'll probably be able to have a lot more spending money and flexibility in our trip than just Wiggleland, Dreamworld and Seaworld. We're looking at things like holding koalas and letting Kanye swim with the dolphins. It's exciting! And it's HAPPENING. I'm not quite over that fact yet. Dreams do come true. So thank you ALL for your support. This has been an amazing experience. Bless your kind hearts, from all of us in the Battrick family. ~Andre
