Lost fishing gear and marine rubbish is killing our sea life, we are dedicated to removing it. If you can give a little, we can do a lot!
Wellington
When fishing gear is lost, its ability to continue trapping, hooking and netting fish isn’t.
This “Ghost Fishing” gear is a problem 24 hours of every day, every day of the year. It doesn’t have days off when the weather is bad and it has no respect for the rules. Unless this lost gear is removed it continues to kill and harm marine animals for many years.
Ghost Diving New Zealand (GDNZ) is a group of SCUBA divers, free divers, fishing enthusiasts and shore crew who specialise in the recovery and proper disposal of this "Ghost Gear”.
We also have an active role in the removal of marine rubbish from all around the Wellington region.
By removing this “Ghost Gear” we help reduce the harm but also promote environmental awareness and conservation.
We are part of a global effort but our focus is 100% New Zealand.
GDNZ dive gear requires constant maintenance and repair. Help is needed to fund our environmental mission work and ensure we have operational and safe gear.
GDNZ Goes to Rotorua 3 April 2024
Really excited to head to Rotorua this coming weekend to assist Aotearoa Dive with its clean up event at Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake). Thanks to all that have donated in 2024, this has made a trip like this possible.
