Give Lexi-Lulu a chance to run again

  • After 7 months of rest, Lexi is running with me again.

      7 March 2022

As a last and happy update, Lexi has started running with me again. We both have fitness to work on, but many kilometers lie ahead of us together. Thank you all again for helping us get to this point.

  • We survived 8 weeks of crate rest

Lexi's 8 weeks of crate rest ended last weekend...what an achievement. She still sleeps in there and often chooses to have a little escape from the world, but all optional now. We are limiting her activity, as she eases back into being a dog, but so far so good. Thank you to everyone who helped us get this far, from messages checking on her, to ideas to keep her (and us) sane.

  • Week 3 of recovery

      3 August 2021

Lexi is into week 3 of recovery, and a little more used to life in her crate. She has chewed a few dog beds, lots of boxes, toys, and more. She is ready to run and play, but we have to keep at this crate rest for 5 more weeks.

At the end of next week we get to start some walking, and really looking forward to a little freedom.

  • Lexi's recovery - week 1

      20 July 2021

Crate rest is no fun, that's for sure. But the surgery apparently went well and the vet surgeon removed a good size chunk of loose cartilage from the left side (which was the problem side).

The crate is going to be the big challenge. She is now working for each of her meals...kongs, eating out of a muffin tin with tennis balls covering it, frozen snacks, marrow bones, snuffle mats.

  • Lexi's surgery

      14 July 2021

Lexi is going for surgery tomorrow afternoon at the Warkworth vet. A bit nervous for the recovery, and excited for her brighter future. The vet surgeons name is Boet (a South African) who has been here since he was 1a teenager and did his studies at Massey University. Sounds like she will be in great hands. Thank you to all of you who made this possible for her.

To my fellow South Africans who are currently going through turmoil, this pales in comparison to your current hardships, and I am praying hard for you all and the beautiful country. Vasbyt, stick together, and you will conquer. x x

Good news. We have found an out of Auckland vet surgeon who can do the surgery for $4200. Our goal just became more achievable. We're getting there Lexi.
