A native restoration and community garden project in Onehunga.
Onehunga, Auckland
Onehunga Peoples Garden is an incorporated society developed by the local community to enrich our beautiful Onehunga environment for the benefit of all. Since 2013, we have been removing rubbish, planting natives, managing weeds and restoring the waterways at 64 Arthur St. to restore the habitat of native birds and other fauna. We also promote the eco-science and history of the site.
By acknowledging the mauri of the whenua and the history of the space with community events, OPG enhances the social and ecological fabric of Onehunga. The Peoples Garden is a model for beautiful and sustainable development of neglected reserves across Auckland City!
There are of course other ways you can contribute such as gifting labour in the garden or plants and resources. Feel free to contact us directly if you have something non financial to offer on: onehungapeoplesgarden@gmail.com
We'd like to fund ongoing weeding, planting and pathway development projects for this previously neglected site, which has become beautiful through collective community effort.
