Glen Innes, Auckland
The Glen Innes Foodbank provides free food parcels to people who are experiencing temporary extreme financial hardship and are unable to buy food for themselves and their family - it exists to provide temporary help to help them through their tough time.
The Glen Innes Foodbank is run by volunteers and operates in conjunction with the Glen Innes Citizens Advice Bureau and the Tamaki Budgeting Service and we cover the greater Glen Innes area and have provided over 1800 food parcels last year.
We have been operating for around 20 years and have been experiencing a big increase in demand for food parcels recently, so much so that we can run out of food at times and then we cannot help the people who are in great need.
We are a charity and are supported by local businesses and some generous people who donate food and money which we need to pay our bills such as power and rental for our premises and we also need to buy some food items such as baked beans and spaghetti to top up our supplies.
Unfortunately, our donations have drastically reduced during the recession and we now need more funds to keep going.
We would very much appreciate any help you can provide to enable us to keep helping the community.
We have a Facebook page at Glen Innes Foodbank with further information.
The money will be spent on buying food staples such as baked beans and spaghetti which go into our food parcels and given to people in need. Also to assist us to pay for power, rental for our premises and costs for our van we use to collect food donations
