This is what $10,000 in a vial looks like. Today is my first round of treatment with Daratumumab, I'm a little apprehensive but also looking forward to getting stuck in to this next phase.

Having the opportunity to go ahead with Dara gives me a much better chance of holding off my Myeloma and, with any luck, a period of remission.

Today's visit is about 5 hours – the jab only takes 5mins but I need to hang around to make sure I don't have a reaction (unlikely as Dara is generally very well-tolerated). I'll be back once a week for short visits for injections over the next 8 weeks, from there it's fortnightly then down to once a month.

I owe a huge thank you to you all for your support, and I can't express enough how much that means to me, Sarah and our girls.

    Ngā mihi maioha 🧡

My family and I been so overwhelmed with the generosity we've seen through this page. Every bit makes a huge difference, and we can't thank you all enough for your support.

Funding a drug like Daratumumab is a big ask. We've had estimates come back from my treatment centre totalling $140,000 for the first year, $100k of that is for Dara and the remaining $40k is clinical costs — around $20k more than we'd anticipated. Luckily we sold our house late last year and have purchased a new one. This frees up funds for treatment but there's still a long way to go.

For now my myeloma levels are looking good and the plan is to hit it hard while it's down. 2024 was a rough year but I'm heading into 2025 feeling good and ready to take on the next phase of my treatment, starting next Tuesday 4th Feb.
