These donations will be split between the two groups to help fund future performance opportunities for students.
Auckland
This concert showcases two tertiary-level music groups that occupy a niche space within the music community. UniBand is an all-comers university concert band, and the Auckland University Student Choir (AUSC) is an all-comers university choir. Both groups strive to provide a low-cost opportunity for musical development to students who predominantly don't study music and need access to many performance opportunities. These groups work closely together as students tend to showcase their talents across both groups, allowing them to part take in and organise regular concerts each year. When COVID hit, both groups struggled with numbers as low as a handful of people at rehearsals. Still, due to the nature of the groups, the students they serve and the connections made with their musical director, Jono Palmer, UniBand and AUSC have seen an increase in numbers and the rebuild of their groups post-pandemic. The students' dedication to music whilst completing degrees such as Engineering and Law speaks to the calibre of the students who make up these groups.
UniBand is a student-founded and student-led band. It encompasses the spirit of music and camaraderie. Founded in 2013, UniBand has a history of excellence. Performing regularly at events, parades, band competitions, and more. We welcome anyone to join us.
