March is Rare Disorders Month, and we are calling on Aotearoa to Glow Up and Show Up for the 300,000 Kiwis living with a rare disorder.
Why #GlowUpShowUp? The rare disorder community in New Zealand is currently being left in the dark. Unlike most OECD countries, New Zealand doesn’t have a national strategy for rare disorders.Rare Disorders Month is a chance for the 300,000 strong community of patients and their whānau, to rally together and call for urgency in the health reform they’ve been promised.
Living with a rare disorder isn’t rare – the size of the community is similar to that of a big city like Wellington. If you don’t have a rare disorder, then you likely know someone who does. And they need you to Glow Up and Show Up this Rare Disorders Month.
We are the advocacy and support body for the collective rare disorder community in Aotearoa. We rely on donations to continue to hold the Government to account on their promise to develop a national rare disorder strategy.
By donating this Rare Disorders Month, you’re helping to bring this community out of the darkness, and into the light. Your donation will go towards running our enquiries line, providing connection, guidance, advice and resources for 140+ support groups and representing the rare community’s voice at the highest levels to improve healthcare and wellbeing for people and their whānau living with a rare disorder.

Rare Disorders NZ is the connector hub & collective voice for people affected by rare disorders and their families. We advocate for an equitable health system that works for the 300,000 Kiwis with a rare condition - around 6% of the population.
Your donation will go towards providing a place for the rare disorder community to turn to for connection, guidance, advice and resources.
