    Hi friends

We are now 17 weeks post-op, and we just wanted to let you know that Gracie’s new knee is amazing! We are so pleased with it - it’s a great success.

She’s doing so well - her deformed foot is holding her back a bit in terms of her ability to exercise and rehabilitate, but we are lucky to have a wonderful canine physiotherapist working closely with us to help her along.

Thank you so much for your support - Gracie is so very very happy and is thrilled at her ability to run free on the beach again.

    With love xx

  • Gracie has had surgery!

    Hello

Gracie had her TTA surgery on June 6th. We weren’t able to make the June 4th date due to the highway being closed.

Surgery went well - Gracie’s knee was a real mess, the surgeon also ended up removing most of the meniscus as it was destroyed. It was folded over and had been pressing into a nerve, so must’ve been really painful.

Grace has had a fantastic first week - she’s also been receiving some Reiki therapy from someone who is very kindly donating their service. The Reiki is helping her keep calm and heal.

She’s been walking really well since three days post-surgery and it becomes easier for her every day.

She’s starting on high dose treatments and supplements to try and help slow down the progress of all the arthritis in her knee and elsewhere.

The tough part now is keeping her still for eight weeks while the new bone forms, as she’s feeling so good she’s rearing to go!

I’ve attached a video for you - the first part of the video was filmed 3 days before surgery - the second part is just three days after surgery - and just look at her tail wagging! It just doesn’t stop wagging when she’s walking now!

So once again, thank you so much for your help and support in getting the surgery for Gracie. You’ve helped make a really big difference in our darling girl’s life already.

  • Gracie's Surgery Update

    Hello

Thank you all so much for your incredible generosity.

It’s been so heart-warming to receive the love, support and best wishes from everyone who has been able to donate to help raise funds for Gracie’s surgery.

We are happy to be able to tell you that Gracie is having her surgery next week on June 4th.

The procedure she is having is called TTA Surgery (Tibial Turberosity Advancement) and also a Meniscal Release. Basically the bone below the knee joint is being reshaped with an implant and plates, so that the knee joint can stay in place without the cruciate ligament which has ruptured.

The meniscal release is a procedure because Gracie has also torn the meniscal, which is in the knee joint, between the two bones.

We’ve been busy preparing our home for the 16 week rehabilitation period. Trying to minimise the risk of Gracie being about to jump up on anything and fracture the bones around the plate, and preparing to be by her side as much as necessary to ensure her safety and that she gets the best chance to recover that she can have.

We’re really nervous about the surgery, as in the past, surgical procedures have not always been straightforward for Gracie. However, we’re also really hopeful that in time, her leg will be strong enough to help her walk a lot better on her other foot which is deformed, and that she will be in a lot less pain daily.

So once again, thank you so very much for your support. Without your help, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

If you want to follow Gracie’s progress, please follow her Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/poppyandgracienz/ or you can email us at poppyandgracie@gmail.com if you would like updates and photos.

We'll send out another update through Givealittle once she has had her surgery, to let you know how it went.

    Much love

    Sara, Joe and Gracie.

  • Fundraising extension and wheels!

Hello, thank you all so very much for your support so far, we really appreciate it.

We’ve been In touch with Massey University and they have a six week waiting list once the referral has been sent through from our vet. Gracie is waiting to get X-rays done by our vet for this referral to be done.

Because of this, we’ve decided to push out the closing date of Gracie’s Give a Little page from 31 March to 30 April. This gives us a bit more time to try and raise the $5000 + for the surgery at Massey, and lines up with the dates they can give us.

In the meantime, Huhanz have very kindly lent us a doggie wheelchair which Gracie has taken to like a fish to water. You can see how amazed she is that it doesn’t hurt when she moves in the wheelchair.

Hopefully this means she’ll get some little walks to help her get more enjoyment and fulfilment from her life.

So please keep sharing her page around - every donation is helping us get her to Massey to get the help she needs so much.

    Thank you again xx

    Sara and Joe
