      17 May 2019

I thought it was about time I did another update as the page is still open for donations.

Graeme is doing well…. Heather tells me his scans are all looking really good, I don’t want to say his cancer is ‘gone’ incase it rears its ugly head again but as I said things are looking good, which is such a relief for so many of us.

We took some big firewood rounds to Graeme and Heathers place the other week and it was pretty awesome to have him out there helping us unload it although Heather said he will probably need a big rest afterwards, but he looks a hell of a lot better than he did 6 months ago.

Graeme messaged me the other day to say he got his PEG (feeding device that goes straight into his stomach) taken out and that he had eaten his first ‘egg’ via his mouth not the PEG and is using a fork and knife again…. no spoon ! it sure is the little things in life we take for granted.

It is hoped that Graeme can return to work within the next 6 months which is pretty awesome for him to have that on the horizon and a small step to getting back to normality – Heather might get some piece and quiet !!!

I just must again before I sing off say thank you to everyone for their donations and support to Graeme, Heather and kids.

      30 November 2018

This update has been abit delayed as Graeme has had scans over the last month and a Specialist appointment last week to hear the results.

I am disappointed to report that even after the chemo and radiation treatment the scans showed Graeme’s cancer is still there; the tumor has however reduced in size, it is hoped now that the Doctors will operate to remove it and he may need to do another round of chemo and radiation in Palmerston North.

With what Graeme has been through over the last few months at least now Graeme and Heather and the kids will know what to expect if he needs to go through another round of chemo and radiation treatment. Graeme continues to suffer significant side effects from the treatment which is pretty debilitating, but has been managing to do some model truck building when he is up to it.

I guess whoever wrote those wedding vowels ‘in sickness and in health’ knew what they were talking about - Heather has been an amazing support for Graeme and the kids through this although at times I’m sure at times her strength only shows on the outside when her insides are crumbling trying to hold everything together.

I’m not sure what the next month with the lead up to Christmas or next year will bring for the family so please put Graeme in your thoughts. Heather often tells me the give a little page has been an absolute lifesaver so again thank you to all those that have donated, the page is being kept open for 1 year as we just don’t know where this journey will end up.

  • August update

      31 August 2018

Graeme has now finished his treatment down in Palmerston North for the time being apart from regular checkups down there. Unfortunately right now things are pretty crap and the last couple of weeks has been the worst for Graeme due to the chemo and radiation effects as well as consecutive chest infections not helping, he is still unable to eat so relies on the PEG for tube 'feeding'.

The family is very glad to be back home now and Graeme is concentrating on trying to regain strength and functionality, huge thank you to everyone who has donated, Graeme is still in no position to be able to go back to work so the money donated is continuing to be a huge help.

Graeme will have a scan in 3 months time to assess where things are at with the tumour, fingers crossed for the treatment to have worked but also right now hoping that he will start feeling better soon.

  • Week 3

      19 July 2018

Graeme is now in his 3rd week of treatment down in Palmerston North, unfortunately the treatment has taken its toll on Graeme and he has been too unwell to travel back to New Plymouth on weekends as he had planned and was very disappointed to be too unwell to attend his brothers wedding earlier this month.

I received a few messages from Graeme earlier in the week he said he has now lost all taste and is just as he puts it 'buggered' all the time. He went on to complain that the falcon battery will be flat by now.. to think what he is going through down there and only worrying about the bloody car battery - an easy fix !!

Huge thanks to those people who are helping to keep things ticking over at their house in New Plymouth you know who you all are :) again Graeme and Heather wish to extend huge thanks to everyone that has supported them and those that have donated to the page it is very much extremely appreciated, we also need to make mention of a special someone out there ... we don't know who you are but Graeme and Heather are truly humbled by your regular very generous donations, words just cannot describe the gratitude.

  • June update

      26 June 2018

Graeme has now completed the three proceedures/operations that he needed to have done before he could start chemo and radiation, Graeme has had to shave off all his facial hair so now looks very different :) :) or maybe younger !!

He starts chemo down in Palmerston North next week, but up until now there has been multiple visits each week down and back which has been incredibly tiring for Graeme, unfortunately there has been appointments that have been made in Palmerston North where Graeme, Heather and the kids have traveled down only to find out that the appointment has been cancelled and they were not told so then having to turn around and drive the 3 and abit hours home again, its little incidents like this that cause even more financial hardship on the family.

They have had to put 2 new tyres and brake pads and brake lines on their car in order to be able to safely travel these long distances to and from Palmerston North.

Graeme and Heather wish to again sincerely thank every single person that has donated, they are truly humbled by the generosity that has been shown, the money raised so far has really helped them out as they are living week to week, they also thank the people that have called around to visit with food and well wishes it is really appreciated.

The family is continuing financial hardship so I have asked Give a Little to keep the page open so we can continue to fundraise for this beautiful family in a time of need, please share the link on your facebook page as even the small amounts help out in a big way.
