Help us maintain and grow the #WHALE JOY - by supporting the Great Kaikōura Whale Count 2026!

Kaikoura, Canterbury

Since 2020, the Kaikōura Ocean Research Institute (KORI) has made the Great Kaikōura Whale Count a staple on the annual Kaikōura calendar. With all the chaos and turmoil around us all constantly in recent times, we know just how much calm, peace and pure joy nature can bring - and the annual Great Kaikōura Whale Count brings strangers and friends from locals to global visitors together for this incredible experience!

We would love to keep this tradition alive and continue bringing the joy and celebration of increasing whale populations that migrate by and visit us along this rugged stretch of Aotearoa coastline… and to do this we need YOUR help!

As with many businesses and organisations, we too are feeling the mutual pinch of funding. We totally understand and relate to this pinch personally, with ever increasing cost of living and the price of fuel alone these days. BUT we also know just how far even a few dollars can go, and so we are asking for your help for even the smallest amounts to help us keep this amazing, heartwarming event going this year.

Only have a few dollars or cents to spare? WONDERFUL and we are so grateful! Are you a business that would love to see this tradition continue to bring people to our amazing little corner of the world? A donation of $500 or more and we will honour the donor by including your logo up as one of our sponsors for this year’s event. Have a bit more to give? We could provide naming and sponsorship rights to you and your business!

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
