Found on her own, remote spot, absolutely freezing, so tucked inside Aunty Nila's coat for the journey home.
We rescued Buki 4.5 years ago as a starving puppy. He's lived his life in a shelter since, because thus gorgeous boy became a giant! But now he has joined Apollo and has a loving family of his own.
A dental check up revealed Didi had a cancer growing through her lip. We moved quickly tp remove it have to find a way to pay the bill. If you can donate we would be so grateful.
All stray dogs fight for survival, living in misery, frightened, hungry, thirsty, often in terrible pain. Smaller dogs do it harder in many ways, because they are less able to defend themselves. But to cheer you and us up, here's a before and after photo of Romeo. This is what your donations do. Xxxx
There are over 1 million strays in Greece. Its bad enough they struggle for food and water, but are often subjected to terrible cruelty. Pets are often not sterilized, and once they get old, sick or past the cute puppy stage, ruthlessly DUMPED. We count ourselves lucky if we find them before they are injured or starving. And if they haven't been tied up and left to slowly starve. Or their ears haven't been cut off. And this week, we were lucky. 2 very thirsty, hungry, very scared dogs rescued. About 6 and 18 months. We need help with their vet bills please.
Miso was one of the 4 dogs, found chained and abandoned on an uninhabited island. Can you imagine 'disposing' of an unwanted pet this way? Chained, no water, no food, scared. Miso has cancer, we are providing hospice care, and loads of love. When she tells us its time, she will be helped onto the Rainbow Bridge. Xxxx
Twiggy was found as an abandoned young puppy, skinny, dehydrated, covered in ticks and with a broken, back right leg. Unfortunately, it was an old fracture. We got him strong, and he travelled to Germany for his specialist orthopedic surgery. He's recovering nicely.
Good food and mange treatments have transformed this very old girl onto a sleepy fatty boom boom.
Neni is a bit naughty! Her personality has emerged as the fear of starvation and abuse faded. We sent her to foster in Germany, and her forever family found her. Be a good girl Neni!
Nila found 4 newly born kittens in a rubbish bin. She hand reared them, and here's the first one to be adopted, loving life! There's a video of this sweet kittie on our Facebook page.
Thanks to your donations, look at Bonnie now after a few weeks of mange treatments! Thank you xxx
With the fires in Greece, our work never ends! This year, the fires have affected us differently. Although there are fires burning in Sounion, we aren't in the thick of it like we were in previous years. Instead, we are being swamped with 'refugees'. Strays running away from the fires, are arriving weakened, very frightened and we are encountering the worst mange cases we've ever seen. Thank you for your support.
One of our latest rescues, thanks to your generosity receiving the help she needs xxxx
We are rescuing those we can. Please we need donations for food and vet treatments. Its an inferno.
We are so thankful to our partners who find our rescues, such loving homes.
After waiting years, Rex is now living in Germany with a family of his own.
Our work continues! Nilla was with us for a very long time, but is now happily living in Germany with a family of her own.
Apologies, this page was closed at the end of February, because Nicola forgot to extend out the finish date! But rescuing still continues. It's still very cold in Greece, Covid lockdowns is making rescuing even harder (and it was hard enough before this crisis). Recently, a Greek citizen took her small dog out for a walk. Realizing she had her slippers on, she tied her dog to a fence, and rushed home to grab shoes. Only a few doors away. She heard her dog screaming and found a POLICEMAN beating her tiny, tethered dog with a HAMMER. So it's no surprise that rescuers are treated with open contempt and threats. However, we will not give up! Please support us, food is desperately needed. Xxx
Help! An elderly rescuer just died, leaving 30 vulnerable dogs in her shelter. Because she was old and frail, but still trying to help these poor animals, the shelter is over run with rats. We've put our hand up to help 10 of the dogs. One is sick and already at the vets. We need to get them OUT ASAP, they are at risk from the locals who will kill them. Please donate to vet and foster costs. Thank you
Nila took her dogs for a walk in a remote forest. She stumbled across a dead dog, unfortunately shot. Cowering besides it was another dog. Too scared to leave her friend, Nila carried her out. Summer is now in our care and needing urgent vet treatment. It's common practice to dispose of unwanted hunting dogs in Greece by dumping, shooting or hanging :(
Hi guys
I just changed the end date for our Givealittle cause. Our work continues in Greece, despite the hardships caused by the Covid crisis. We've been working hard for almost 4 years now! More and more pets are being dumped, more and more litters of puppies thrown away, but we soldier on! Thank you xxx
We are overrun with puppies! This is Sunny, about 2 months old, found dumped and desperate for food and water, infested with fleas. Any donations towards Sunny's vaccinations, food, sterilization, foster costs would be greatly appreciated.
This is Spikey, a young dog found covered in ticks. We've rescued him, his gums are totally white, that means Ehrlichiosis :(. Any contribution towards his vet bills will be very much appreciated.
Luckily, we sent a few dogs to their forever homes, before Covid-19 closed down flights. Tim was one of the lucky ones, now loving life in Switzerland and he made #63 for us!
As flights reduce around the world, and people stay at home, we have no choice but to sit tight and wait for flights and escorts to resume. In the meanwhile, this means that we have lots of hungry mouths as sending dogs to their forever homes, stalls. Also, more and more family pets are being dumped. The streets are filling up with confused and frightened dogs, running to greet cars, hoping it's their owners. Dumping has always been a huge problem, now it's worse. Please donate to feed these poor creatures.
As we approach Christmas 2019, and our 3rd anniversary, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for helping us rehome 62 rescues to wonderful families outside of Greece. AND to rehome many locally. AND to continue our feed, treat, rescue programme. We have 12 dogs ready for their forever homes. With your continued support, we can keep helping them. God Bless
Instead of creating a new fundraiser, Givealittle have said we can just extend our previous one. That saves time! Many of you follow our work on our Facebook page and know our work continues. Last year we sent our 27 dogs to wonderful new homes. This year we are aiming for 30 :)
Yoda and his sister Sansa, were 2 dumped puppies. Sansa got adopted quickly but Yoda got very sick. He recovered and yesterday, it was his turn :) yippee!
