Growing dense forest, full of native wildlife, fast!

$910 of $20,000 goal
Given by 4 generous donors in around 12 months

Our goal is to plant a dense, thriving native forest to create a safe haven for native wildlife and a place for our community to enjoy.

Grovetown, Marlborough

We all know there is a real need to look after our environment, enhance our biodiversity and slow down climate change.

We have no time to waste – that is why we are planning to plant a dense native forest, that will grow as fast as possible, on a 4000 square metre bare paddock near Blenheim.

By planting indigenous trees closely so they shelter each other, we will see more rapid growth. Not only will this create a beautiful forest much faster than through conventional planting, it will also more quickly create a safe haven for birds, lizards and other native wildlife.

The forest will be open to the community but fenced off from cats and rabbits. Rodents and mustelids (stoats, ferrets etc) will be eradicated with traps. We are also planning a pond to create a safe environment for native fish, while providing a space for our community to enjoy.

Visitors, including school and other groups, are welcome to enjoy the forest and can visit the adjacent Koru Native Wildlife Centre during opening hours.

Its our trust's aim to demonstrate that, by working together to plant small areas of land, we can support Aotearoa’s native flora and fauna wherever possible. Right now, every tree and shrub counts, even in your back garden or on a patch of unused commercial land.

About us

Koru Native Wildlife Centre is operated by the charitable Tui Nature Wildlife Trust. The trust has a history of restoring native habitat in Marlborough, we are passionate about New Zealand’s incredible biodiversity and restoring our natural environment.

Use of funds

Funds raised will be used to build a fence to keep cats and rabbits out, control predators like rodents and mustelids, and to create a pond in the heart of the forest for the community to enjoy and to support native fish species.
