ABOUT: We discovered 'Baby Habibi' almost a year ago, his mother was distraught - her friends, family, village leader, religious leader, local health representative & government could not help - NOBODY WOULD HELP.
Thanks to facebook, some generous funders & local man Endri & a great western couple who assisted - baby Habibi received his life saving operation in Bali.
This week how ever Habibi was not well and Endri took him to hospital. The problem is we need to get him and his family to Bali for another smaller but equally important surgery.
Habibi's mother is now on her own
Habibi is a fun & beautiful child who has touched many hearts in 'Lombok Forgotten Children' humanitarian FB support group, he can go to school and be a important part of his community.
Firstly thank your for your interest in finding out more about the challenges I presently face as a Kiwi helping Lombok sick & dying children; connecting children in pain - to doctors, surgeries, prosthetic limbs, pain medicine, wheelchairs, food aid and more.
It is a bit of long story of how a year ago while doing remote volunteer marine environmental work in Lombok I started coming across a lot of forgotten sick children who wanted me to help.
NO ONE WAS DOING ANYTHING TO HELP THESE SICK, DYING & DISABLED CHILDREN & I didn't have the heart to just WALK AWAY.
In the space of several weeks I organised a small remote village research project and uncovered 60 children who were all in a situation where villages simply hide their sick children with the 'out of sight out of mind solution'. If you visit www.endri.org you will see the very sad photos the children we discovered in just 9 days.
HOW WOULD YOU HELP? At first I wrote hundreds of emails to charities & groups 'whose websites say they help' getting no returning Emails & lots of NO's - this was energy destroying for me & I was still mostly alone.
That was until I started reaching out for help on Facebook which lead onto creating the 'Lombok Forgotten Children' humanitarian group. This group is growing fast & is now a very DOING Humanitarian group. Some of our focuses is our '2015 - One hundred wheelchair project', '27 Legs & Arms Project' and most importantly helping to spark an amazing young Indonesian man called Endri seed his own foundation. My purpose is to empower Endri, we give him a very small $50 per week and also funds & resources so he can help his own people.
In less than a year we have connected children to over US $250,000 worth of aid at a cost of $20,000. Endri is key & he works hard to force open his regions hospital doors that were firmly closed to these impoverished families which means we can get big things done with out having to get tens of thousands of dollars for operations. We are not doctors or experts we simply 'connect' the children to resources, transport, food aid and many other things needed to empower Endri to help. At the projects beginning many locals & local authorities feared what we were exposing and some threats were made for us to close down. Endri simply said he had a western friend who gave a few dollars and they left us alone. As we have been doing and achieving many things we have been getting support and the more we do, the more support is generated but we still have a huge way to go.
THE FORGOTTEN BLIND ORPHANAGE: These children were only getting 17 cents a day for 3 meals.
We have fun supporting 30 the very poor, but strong blind orphans. http://blindophanage.weebly.com/
MORE INFORMATION:
While Bali has a thousand or more resourceful foundations Lombok /Sumbawa has few and there is a 40 year back log of sick needing surgeries, blind needing cataract, surgeries, deformed & crippled without legs, arms needing prosthetics & wheelchairs orphanages without funders, hearing.
WHO’S TO BLAME - WHY DON’T LOCAL PEOPLE & GOVERNMENT HELP - well some do, some want to, but most don’t. The reasons are large & very very complex and not always about money, however Lombok is growing up & changing the mind set is what Endri is seeding. . I spend a lot of time posting about this.
A SIMPLE MINIMUM PURPOSE: 'NO LOMBOK SICK CHILD SHOULD DIE HUNGRY OR IN PAIN’
We effectively are growing into a hospice/disabled child SUPPORT SERVICE that uses Endri & other locals to find & CONNECT desperate children to aid, funding, resources, prosthetic limbs, surgeries, wheelchairs, medical help, specialist charities and doing the necessary paperwork that opens the doors for 'forgotten children' to enter government hospitals.
We also seek to encourage ‘change' in promoting ‘Indonesians on all levels to help Indonesians’
Thank you so much,
Kind regards Peter Honey

Habibi Back in Hospital, 5 June 2015
Evening everybody, just a quick hello ... Habibi's shunt - a small surgical drain which drains the excess fluid from his head ... had moved and last night it was a big rush from the village to the hospital. He was in a bad way at the time but seems a lot better now. His surgery was done in Lombok.
