The Haere Mai Bags is a Nelson-based organisation which creates welcome bags with all the school supplies former refugee students need when they arrive in Nelson. We need the help of community support to ensure these students are made to feel welcome and valued. These bags create connections between new and current students and show them that they will be supported to succeed at school. It relieves a significant financial burden on their families and those assisting their transition. We started as a school project in 2019 and have grown to welcome dozens of former refugees to the stoke area.
Use of funds
Each backpack contains stationary, books, a water bottle, a lunchbox and a calculator.

Thank you to all our wonderful community members who have generously given to our cause so far! We are very grateful. Those funds are being used to create welcome bags for students in the Nelson area, and we couldn't do it without you.
