Halcombe Community ANZAC Day - 100 years since the homecoming
To raise funds for the Halcombe Community ANZAC Day 2019 - Commemorating 100 years since the WWI Homecoming.Manawatu / Whanganui
This year marks the 100th anniversary of our ANZACs returning home and the last year of the official 5-year commemoration of WW1. If you have attended one of our previous ANZAC Day services or seen the pictures and videos, you will know that the Halcombe Community ANZAC Day events are incredibly special, pulled together by a wonderful group of volunteers. This year the service will be the pinnacle, with a re-enactment of the soldiers ‘Homecoming’. We have the Feilding Steam Train bringing 150 people from Feilding to our service, and we will be encouraging people to dress in period costume.
Other events are also being held to commemorate the ANZAC's bravery and service. An Art Exhibition will be held alongside our Military Memorabilia display and the community is getting together to make clay poppies and wreaths.
Our history is important to us and we want to ensure that it is preserved and passed on to the next generation. We have asked our community to share some local history about service people returning from the war, the impact the war had on families and any other interesting stories. To follow these stories, get contact details about any of the events and further updates about ANZAC Day 2019 follow us on Facebook or see www.halcombecommunity.co.nz
The Halcombe ANZAC Day is a true community event, with a shared community lunch following the service. The large number of people expected to attend the event means our costs for hosting this day are significantly higher. Funds raised via this Give-a-little page will contribute directly to these costs. We would greatly appreciate any donation you can give and welcome everyone to attend what will be a very special commemoration. ANZAC Day 25th April 2019, Halcombe Cenotaph, from 9am.
