Hamish's long road back to firefighter boots

$6,331 of $100,000 goal
Given by 49 generous donors in around 6 months

Donate a little to help in Hamish's long journey of recovery and getting back on his feet!

Rotorua, Bay Of Plenty

On October 25th, 2022 at just 45yrs old, Hamish had a severe, sudden and completely unexpected stroke while working away from home.

His Volunteer firefighter knowledge and skills gave him the ability to recognise instantly that something wasn't right, which meant help was able to be called fast.

Despite best efforts, Hamish has suffered greatly from the damage the bleeding has caused. It will be a long journey for Hamish to get back on his feet again. Unable to work and with a family to support, we need your help to ensure that Hamish and his family can concentrate on healing and returning to the things he loves.

Hamish has spent the last 8 years helping his community as a volunteer firefighter, and now he needs his community to help him.

Update - We still need all the help we can get  14 March 2023

Until last week, Hamish has been doing well in his recovery, despite not being able to access outpatient physical therapy from the Hospital yet, he and Kelly have been paying for private therapy for him. He was recently accepted into a program through QE Health which he was due to start this week. Unfortunately late last week, he has had a further setback when it appeared he had a further stroke, upon admittance to hospital, the Doctors said that a migraine was causing pressure in his brain, causing left side paralysis. He has begun bouncing back from this set back though, and came home again yesterday.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
