Supporting our Harper-Jays Journey
Nelson
Hey everyone just a back story of Harper - Jay she was born with spina bifida which caused her to have a large fluid lump on her back , her spine to not grow 100% and has fat tissue sitting right on her spine putting pressure on her organs , she was also born without a anus she had a surgery for this at 6weeks old and smashed through it but this is a big one for her!
Harps will have major surgery sometime next month in Auckland in starship hospital away from home. Harper will have a bit of her spin removed, also will have her fluid lump drained at the same time and they are unsure if this will grow back. She will get a fat lump removed and that is the dangerous bit as it sits right on her spine and it’s putting a lot of pressure on her organs which can cause life changing damage to her kidneys and bladder if this is isn’t done. Doctors have said she would be able to walk again but also they have given that 10% she might not be able to. We are also unsure on how recovery will go after her surgery and unsure how long they will remain in Auckland after.
