We are a young couple on a mission, a mission to show that anyone can get out and do amazing things. With one of us living with asthma we are cycling the length of New Zealand as a personal adventure with an added bonus of raising money and awareness for Asthma New Zealand.
New Zealand has one of the highest rates of asthma in the world. We know that 60% of people with asthma reduce their activity or give up on sport completely. We want to encourage people just like us to live well with asthma.
Tour Aotearoa is one of the world’s great bike packing trips: stretching 3,000km from Cape Reinga to Bluff it follows a combination of cycle trails, tracks, paths and lanes connected by the most enjoyable country roads available. One of the conditions of entering into this challenge is that you MUST do it all yourself. We have between 10 and 30 days to do it in, meaning we must average at least 100 km a day.
We live in a world were so much is instant. This adventure will challenge us mentally, physically and emotionally. We suspect that there will be many spiritual moments along the way also. Our ability to delay gratification and endure discomfort will enable us to get from one end of this amazing country to the other.
Asthma NZ have been providing education, training and support for 48 years. Our nurses are in the community supporting families and individuals in their homes, at school, in workplaces and on sports fields.
We have nurses in Auckland, Rotorua and Wellington.
Asthma is brushed aside by too many people. Poor breathing affects everything aspect of life. In fact nothing else matters when you can't breathe.
We are raising funds to assist Asthma NZ develop educational tools to enable Young New Zealanders like ourselves to live well with asthma.
