HAVEN – Mid-South Refuge provides specialised family safety services in Mid-South Island. We offer inclusive, whānau-centered advocacy.

Family violence does not discriminate. It can affect anyone. It could be your neighbour, the person serving you at the supermarket, the bus driver, your colleague, a friend or a member of your own family.
Together, we can create a community where everyone can be safe, supported and free from violence.
For many years, our organisation was known as the Mid-South Island Women’s Refuge and Family Safety Services. While our core mission to provide sanctuary remains as strong as ever, we evolved our name to HAVEN to better reflect our inclusive, whānau-centered approach to modern family safety.
The woven heart at the centre of our logo is a powerful symbol of connection, protection, and collective strength. Inspired by the traditional art of weaving, it reflects how individuals, whānau, and local community services are interwoven to create a net of safety and support for our clients.

Donated funds will be used to assist our clients with safety needs. This last financial year, we have spent $28,000 on alternative accommodation for clients; we have supported 2275 referrals and 886 safe bed nights.
We officially launched! 16 July 2026
Here is a snapshot from our official launch event! It was an incredible day, and we are so proud to finally share what HAVEN is all about.
