Headwaters: a 2026 Burning Man art installation

Kia ora, I’m Maja — lead artist behind project Headwaters.

Back in January, I brought a brick walking labyrinth to Kiwiburn. It was a humble setup, but it created something really special — a quiet space where people could pause, reflect, and set an intention. Seeing how people connected with that stuck with me, and it’s what I’m building on now.

Headwaters is about creating those kinds of moments — spaces that invite you to slow down, tune in, and reconnect with yourself, even in the middle of something big and chaotic like a burn.

This next step is an interactive LED installation that builds on that idea — something more immersive, more visible at night, and able to hold space for reflection in a new way.

I'm honored to have received partial funding as a 2026 Honoraria grant recipient from the Burning Man Foundation, however it only covers a portion of our project costs.

Like a lot of creative projects, this is being pulled together with a lot of care, time, and personal investment — so any support genuinely makes a difference.

Longer term, I’m really excited to keep growing this work — bringing what I’ve learned from Burning Man-style projects into future Kiwiburn builds, and continuing to create installations that feel meaningful, accessible, and grounded.
