Heartbreaking loss for young Puketapu Couple in Cyclone Gabrielle
Napier, Hawke's Bay
For local Hawkes Bay residents Bailey (18) and Te Omeka (19), their loss is something I can't put into words. Their home and everything they owned was engulfed by Cyclone Gabrielle, leaving behind nothing but silt and mud.
The level of destruction experienced by many in Puketapu, left their home completely submerged in water with nothing that could be salvaged. They are grateful to have a single bed to share each night, and a roof over their head... but there is heartbreaking loss in knowing everything is gone, including sentimental and childhood items.
As life begins to return to normal for most people, life is at a complete stand still for Bailey and Te Omeka. The clean up is a long process, and it is clear they can't return to their home. Every bit of financial support is appreciated as the young couple work towards purchasing a cabin or caravan to live in.
Regular updates will be posted. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Update: these guys unfortunately do not have insurance to replace any loss of items ect.
I am Baileys Manager at her part time job and friend
Bailey and her partner Te Omeka have secured land to place a cabin, or a caravan. Any funds raised will go towards purchasing somewhere for them to live and the cost of rebuilding their entire lives including basic things like clothing, products ect.
