H.E.A.R.T for Gloria

  • FINAL UPDATE: YOUR SUPPORT HAS HELPED SO MUCH

      21 June 2016

H.E.A.R.T would sincerely like to thank all Glorias supporters for giving Gloria an opportunity to access 3 months of treatment.

It has been a journey of emotional ups and downs for Gloria, as altho there has been health gains from the treatment, she has had to deal with the physical challenges and limitations of such a treatment, along with the other co-morbid health conditions she deals with on a daily basis.

The positive outcomes for Gloria has been a significant decrease in her level of pain and swelling in her lower limbs, much improved lymph drainage and skin integrity, and with that, a better prognosis for serious infections of the tissue that is affected by stagnation of lymph fluid.

Last but not least, we have had the challenge of how we might devise a plan that would allow continuity of the treatment in the long term (to maintain the gains we have made).

With some lateral thinking Gloria and H.E.A.R.T has developed a Lymphoedema managment plan for future which includes some paid and some donated therapy, additional to this the public Health system has provided some fantastic compression garments which will go a long way to support and enhance the lymphoedema therapy.

Without the givelalittle donations we would not have got to this point, so again THANK YOU ALL VERY VERY MUCH , you have made a difference to Glorias life.

  • WE LOVE WRINKLES

With another month of treatment under our belts, things are positive. The journey is tough for Gloria but the benefits are definitely becoming more evident. The lymph fluid is continually becoming more easy to move, skin health is improving, less swelling, more wrinkles (on her feet and legs - a great sign!). And the best news is Gloria's pain and discomfort in her legs has lessened from treatment to treatment.

Continuity is imperative to the success of this treatment, so we continue to work with Gloria in a way that she and her body can cope with, That means, doing enough to improve the chronic lymphoedema without causing too much stress on her body. We now have Ready Wraps on order (a big thank you to Thames Hospital) which are pressure bandages that help to slow lymph and fluid build up.

This was always going to be a lengthy process, so from the bottom of our H.E.A.R.T we thank all those who are supporting Gloria's treatment journey, ultimately improving her day to day pain and her long term health outcomes.

  • LYMPHOEDEMA THERAPIST UPDATE

Firstly I would like to personally thank all of you who have supported Gloria to be able to access this treatment, which will certainly improve Gloria's long term health outcomes and quality of life. The treatment is going well but has not been without its challenges and has and does require courage, grit and determination on Gloria's part. Since the beginning of the treatment plan I have had to make adjustments to the frequency of treatments and have reduced treatments to once a week so Gloria's body can cope with the lymph load that her body is having to process. We have now found a good balance of treatment that allows us to see effective results, and with this, side effects that Gloria can (thru her stoic nature) cope with. Her care and well-being is managed by a collaboration of GP and Naturopathic support. There is a clear improvement in Gloria's ability to shift the lymph and this is evident in the speed of lymph movement, the reduction of the size of her lower limbs and feet, reduction of body fluid she was previously carrying and her severe lymph discomfort has reduced markedly. These are great steps forward and positive in regards to long term outcomes.

  • Gloria Has Wrinkles!

Treatment has begun and although it is very much a slow and gentle process at the moment, it is showing amazing results.

Gloria was proud to show her wrinkly feet off which is a great sign that the lymph is being moved from her legs and out of her body.

We are off to a great start, provided some relief for Gloria's pain and given her some hope for the first time in years.

We still have a long way to go and a lot of money to raise, so every little bit helps. It can be as little as $5 so please donate what you can. If everyone gave up one cup of coffee for a day and donated it to this cause we would be there in no time!
