HeartLife - Trip to Kenya for healing trauma ministry with Sudanese refugees

Supporting a team heading to Kenya to equip and lead a local church in Nairobi to bring trauma healing to the lives of Sudanese refugees.

International

This December a team of seven will be heading to Kenya from Perth to equip a local church in Nairobi on how to bring healing to the lives of a group of Sudanese refugees in their local community.

These refugees are suffering from the traumas of war - including sex trafficking - and the trauma of forced migration.

The team is led by Aimee Talbot, a New Zealander living in Australia. Aimee is my sister. She is raising awareness of the plight of Sudanese refugees (in Kenya and the migration journeys of some to first world countries) and the team in Australia is currently fundraising towards this big trip.

The trip has a two-fold mission: firstly to train local Kenyan leaders about trauma, and secondly to minister to a small community of Sudanese refugees in their community.

Money raised will cover air fares for the team, accommodation for the team, 2-weeks' van hire in Kenya, one week's worth of full day meals for all Kenyans and Sudanese involved in the ministry times, video work so that the Kenyan community can have a record of the teachings post-visit as a translator will be used throughout the ministry times.

Aimee Talbot can be reached at heartlife@paradoxchurch.com.au

As part of the fundraising I have opened up this page so that New Zealanders (and internationals) may also donate towards this trip. As a bit of fun (especially for those who know me) I will also contribute physically by completing a 2km run and one day without sugar for every $10 raised - thus $100 would equal 10 days without sugary foods and 20kms of running. I am unfit and don't manage myself well in these areas, so this will be a good challenge for me. I intend to update my progress on facebook each week.

Jess Talbot's involvement (page creator)

I am involved as a supporter. I am trying to raise funds to aid this trip because I believe in the cause and my sister is the person heading it up.

I am personally donating to the cause, as well as fundraising by completing a 2km run and a no-sugar-day for every $10 raised.
