HELP US REBUILD OUR POOL AND ENSURE FUTURE GENERATIONS OF ACTIVE, HEALTHY AND WATERSAFE KIWIS

Canterbury

Learning to swim is a vital skill for all New Zealanders, and school and community pools are key to ensuring future generations of Kiwis grow up to be active, healthy and most importantly, watersafe. That’s why we’re fighting to save our pool!

The Heathcote Valley School community pool suffered significant damage in the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake. After several years working with insurers and the Ministry of Education, a plan to rebuild the pool is finally on track. However, we need help to get over the final hurdle: raising the shortfall in funds.

One of the most positive things to come out of the Christchurch earthquakes has been a strong community spirit and recognising the importance of healthy, resilient and supportive communities. Therefore, saving the Heathcote pool is as much about raising water-confident kids as it is about bringing back an important community hub.

To really make the most of these wider community benefits and to enable greater options for use, the opportunity is being taken to future-proof the pool for years to come. This includes - widening the pool; heating the pool to extend the timeframe it can be used; and potentially developing a recreational area around the pool to enable even greater community use.

The school and wider community have stepped up and fundraising is underway, but we’re going to need all the help we can get, so please show your support and make a donation today!

Pool Opened But Further Fundraising for Facilities  12 April 2016

Thanks to all the donations and amazing support, we were able to rebuild the Heathcote School Community Pool and reopen it for the summer in December 2015. But we still have some important things to complete that we need help with, so your donation is still really valuable to us.

The incredible popularity of the pool through the summer highlighted what a fantastic community asset the pool is. And daily swimming by all Heathcote Valley School students has been amazing for their confidence and safety in the water, and extending their swimming skills.

To ensure the pool continues to be a pleasant, practical and safe environment for our community to use, we still have some important things to complete, including installation of seating, shading and gear storage. We are also hoping to continue to work with the community in the potential development of the adjoining green space into an even better community recreation facility.

We still need help with raising funds for these things, and every little bit will help, so show your support and donate today!
