Taranaki

Well I've been wanting to post something for a while, but just haven't found the right time or words, but today seems like the right time...

As most of you know, Will decided back in September that for his last season in ministocks he would raise money and awareness for the breast cancer foundation NZ... So, to do my part towards raising awareness, heres our story...

Will wanted to do his fundraising in honour of his Aunty Helen in the UK as he wasn't able to help over there, so it was his idea to paint his car pink, put the logos on his car and start a take action page on the breast cancer foundation website. He also jumped at the chance to place his car on a truck with the Superstock of Bexs Kylie Barr who was also fundraising for the same charity in honour of her Aunty Heather in the Hawera A&P show parade, to kickstart it all... Ironically, little did we know while all this was going on, all of this would strike a little closer to home. After several tests, scans, ultrasound and biopsies, at the start of this year I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer as well. Surgery followed quickly after (bit annoying as it was the day before the taranaki champs 😲 but hey ho, it didnt stop us going, we've said we'll just keep doing what we need to do and love to do😜 😏) Surgery was successful but, after discussions with my specialists, I start chemo today for a few weeks then down to Palmy for a course of radiotherapy) I have been told that i have to stay away from germs 😨 so if anyone sees me and you have a cold or vomiting bug etc, pleeeease dont be offended if i keep my distance 😏 i just have to make sure i do all i can to keep well so the chemo can do its job and makes me better 😊 You will see a change as well - ill be wearing more hats than normal (even tho I look a complete muppet in hats) as I will lose my hair. So for a while I will be looking a lot like Dr Evil from the Austin Powers films

Helen, I don't know you at all, but I love what my niece Toni is doing for you. Although it's not much I hope it will help. My 12 year old daughter recently did World's Greatest Shave (although only cut her (very) long hair short) and my Mum has had breast cancer so something very dear to our hearts. Stay strong, be brave, fight well. xoxo
