Hello everyone, it's been an exciting time since my last update. I have done all my NZAMD dance exams for the year and I am very pleased with my results. I have my solo seal in hip hop and am off to nationals for ballet. What is even more exciting is that I am off to nationals for ballroom this month too. I'm very nervous as I have only taken up ballroom this year.

Plus I have been up to Kerikeri to perform in "Coppelia" with the Northern Dance Academy.

And my dance school is going very well, it is so nice to see the kids progressing so much and gaining confidence. So it will be nice to offer them acrobatic dance next year.

My course is next week so I am very excited about it, still doing some fundraising and have some raffles on the go.

    Exciting times ahead!!!!!!!!!

So a very big "THANK YOU" for all of your support.

    Salem :-)

  • A little about me - My dance bio

My name is Salem Foxx, I began taking dance classes before I was three years old, and I live and breathe dance.

When I was younger, I was fortunate to perform in four productions with the Royal New Zealand Ballet. This cemented my love of performing and wanting to become a professional dancer.

I have gained distinctions and nominations for Nationals in my vocational exams which include ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip hop and tap. I love to choreograph all my own dances, with which I have received many trophies and awards with top placings in competitions, even competing and winning en pointe.

    My achievements so far include:

2006 Mini documentary “Salem's Dancing” The Go Show – Pickled Possum Productions.

2010-12 Performed in four Royal New Zealand Ballet productions - “The Nutcracker”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Cinderella”, and “Giselle”.

2012-14 I received a Variety “Gold Heart Scholarship” for three years in a row.

2014 Junior Contemporary Major - New Zealand School of Dance’s Associate Programme.

2014 Documentary “Salem's Ballet” Attitude Live.

2014 Pride Awards (Wellington) “Creative Achievement and Innovation (Senior) Award”

2014 Kapiti District Council’s Shout Out Awards “Expression Award”

2014 Finalist for the Attitude Awards (New Zealand) “Creative Achievement Award”

2014 Daddy Warbucks in the Hayley Johnson Academy of Dancing's production of “Annie”.

2015 Performed a ten minute solo at the Pride Awards (Wellington).

2015 ANCA INAP Awards (Canada) “Performing Arts (Youth) Award”

2015 Nominated for the NZAMD Scholarship Awards in Contemporary.

2015 Attitude Awards (New Zealand) “Creative Achievement Award”

2016 Autism NZ Awards “Outstanding Achievement Award”

2016 Performed a six minute solo at the 2016 Attitude Awards.

2016 Nominated for the NZAMD Scholarship Awards in Contemporary and Jazz. Was a finalist in Contemporary.

2017 Founded the Foxx Dance Academy dance school.

2017 Nominated for the NZAMD Scholarship Awards in Contemporary, Ballet, and Hip Hop. Was a finalist in Ballet.

2017 Attained NZAMD Solo Performance Diplomas (Solo Seal) for Contemporary & Jazz.

2017 Captain Hook in L-Dance Studio's “Peter Pan”.

2018 A member of the Judith Fuge Dance School's Tap troupe which received a PACANZ nomination for their “The Greatest Show” tap dance.

2018 A member of the Sea of Humanity Movement Chorus for Michael Parmenter's Wellington production of “OrphEus”.

2018 Choreographed and performed an acrobatic dance for The Circus Hub (Wellington) RAW Circus - “Games and Video Games”.

2018 Extra in a commercial involving aerial wire and harness work - Exit Films.

My dance styles include classical ballet, classical ballet en pointe, neo-classical, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, funk, hip hop, tap and acrobatic dance. This year I have started latin and ballroom dancing, and will be working on more circus skills. Needless to say, I enjoy all dance styles and attend as many seminars and workshops as I can.

I am continuing my New Zealand Association of Modern Dance (NZAMD) vocational training, solo diplomas, and teaching papers. And have started on my New Zealand Association of Teachers of Dancing Inc. (NZFATD) Ballroom and Latin American Dancing examinations. I have previously studied RAD Ballet from Pre-primary through to Advanced 2, and have had experience with the ISTD (Tap), IDTA, and BTDA syllabi.

I am a freelance dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. Eventually I hope to have my own company along with growing my dance school, Foxx Dance Academy.

I'm passionate about sharing my love of dance with others and have been teaching all styles over the last five years, both privately and at several dance schools. I want to be a good role model and encourage more kids, especially boys, to give dance a try, and to change the perception that dancing is only for girls.

I am excited to see where my love of dance will take me with all the opportunities, challenges, and new experiences to come.
