Help Simon represent NZ at the Backyard Ultra World Championships in Tennessee. Any funds exceeding costs will be donated to Melanoma NZ.
Auckland
Simon is a proud father of three young children. He’s not a professional athlete — he’s a regular, hardworking Kiwi. But this October, he’s earned the chance to do something extraordinary.
He’s qualified to represent NZ at the Backyard Ultra World Championships in Tennessee — a race like no other.
In a Backyard Ultra, runners must complete a 6.7 km loop every hour, on the hour, until only one person is left. It’s not just a battle of strength, but of relentless perseverance. Simon knows what that takes. His personal best of 90 hours, or 600 km, ranks him among the top backyard ultra runners in the world. And he knows he can go further.
But he’s not chasing this dream alone.
His wife is his anchor and crew. During races, she manages nutrition, rest, gear and keeping Simon's mind fighting when his body wants to stop. She’s essential to his success.
And their three children — they are his why. Tennessee isn’t just a race for Simon, it's a chance to show his kids what it means to dream big and never give up.
But international travel with a young family isn’t easy or cheap. Flights, accommodation and race logistics quickly add up. That’s why they’re reaching out for help. To make this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity possible.
Let’s help get them there!
Sponsorships are also being pursued to reduce costs. In memory of Simon's Dad, who passed from Melanoma 9 years ago, any funds raised above what is needed to cover travel and race costs will be donated to Melanoma NZ.
Funds will cover race related costs along with the family's flights and travel, accommodation and visas.
If the funding goal is not reached and the trip cannot proceed, all funds will instead be donated to Melanoma NZ in honour of Simon's late father.
Thank you everyone!! 2 September 2025
Last night our fundraising for the world champs came to a close. We finished with a fundraiser quiz night, a silent auction and wrapped up this Givealittle. The generosity has been overwhelming and I just wanted to say one final time - thank you. Thank you to everyone who donated and shared this page. To those I know and those I don't - your support means so much and I hope to do you all proud next month when I take to the course at Bigs Backyard Ultra.
