Help Abbie and Karl pay for unfunded chemotherapy that may save Abbie's life.
Auckland
As you know, Abbie underwent brain surgery in November last year to remove a 5cm grade 4 glioblastoma tumour. This was followed with 30 rounds of radiation and daily chemo. She is currently on monthly chemo and scans have shown that this chemo isn’t working the way it should and tumours have been growing back.
Abbie will most likely need to do another brain surgery in the next two weeks, radiation on a higher dose, and her oncologist has said she needs to try two new types of chemotherapy. Unfortunately, one type (called Avastin) which is recommended by the oncologist isn’t funded in NZ and will cost over $30,000 NZD, but could make a huge difference in killing Abbie’s cancer.
With Abbie being unable to work since November, they have been relying solely on Karls income (what a hubby!). Every little thing helps, so if you are in a position to donate, Abbie and Karl would immensely appreciate your help in getting through this next stage of battling grade 4 brain cancer with Avastin chemotherapy.

We are writing to update you all on Abbie’s health and what stage were at with her brain cancer treatment.
As you know, Abbie underwent brain surgery in November 2020 and again in July 2021! Then followed with another 10 days radiation.
After my results from my MRI came through we are going to be starting chemotherapy on Friday the 12th of November!
Unfortunately we’ve received the quote for chemotherapy and it’s much more than we expected. It’s going to cost us around $100k. We have all the funds that we received ready to go and it will be a great start but we need to try top this up as best we can.
None of us can believe we are facing this, especially after Karen Humphries, Abbie’s mum, lost her battle with breast cancer just last September. This is another huge battle for the Humphries and Sundgren’s but Abbie is being so strong as always, and is flighting with all she has!
Love you all lots. We appreciate all of your ongoing support!
Thank you, love the Sundgren’s and Humphries x
I am Karl, Abbie's husband and in October we will have been married four years!
This money will be spent on covering Abbie's chemotherapy including unfunded Avastin. Any additional funds will be used to help Karl take time off work and place them in accommodation closer to the hospital during tough times.
The best news! 6 January 2022
Thank you so so much for every single donation on our Give A Little. We finally have some really great news!! The chemotherapy and Avastin are working soooooo well. The tumour in my brain has shrunk over 60% of the size in just 4 sessions. YIPEEEEEE. My tumour is so much smaller after using chemo and Avastin. So I’ll be continuing on chemo and Avastin for a scheduled 6 more sessions. I’m so proud of myself!!! Thank you again xxxxx
Abbie
